หนุ่มปีนขึ้นไปบนหุบเขา เพื่อช่วยเหลือสุนัข 2 ตัวที่ติดอยู่สูง 18 เมตรจากพื้นดิน

ครั้งหนึ่งที่ทั้งคู่ขับรถออกไปปีนเขากัน Boue ซึ่งอยู่บนถนนได้ยินเสียงสุนัขเห่ามาจากหุบเขา ตอนแรกเธอคิดว่ามันน่าจะเป็นเสียงของหมาป่าไคโยตี้ เนื่องจากแถวนี้ไม่น่าจะมีหมาทั่วไปอาศัยอยู่

เธอพยายามมองหานักปีนเขาแถวนั้นเผื่อว่าเสียงที่ได้ยินจะเป็นหมาของพวกเขา แต่เธอก็มองไม่เห็นใครเลย เหมือนว่าแถวนั้นจะมีเพียงแค่พวกเธอ

 

 

Leven จึงตัดสินใจปีนขึ้นหุบเขาไปดูว่าเสียงนั้นมาจากไหนกันแน่ เนื่องจากมันอาจเป็นเสียงของหมาป่าที่เดือดร้อนอยู่ และหากเป็นแบบนั้นพวกเขาก็อยากหาทางช่วยมัน

THE BEST LIFE ADVICE OF ALL TIME: It’s a simple phrase that really grinds my gears, and mantra that I repeat daily to varying degrees of success. It’s the most important thing anyone has ever told me. Are you ready for it? It’s not about you. That’s it. And it applies everywhere. It’s not about you. My soul sister @erinoutdoors shared it with me one day and changed my life. It has changed everything—how I interact with relationships, how I approach advocacy, how I handle conflict. We love to take *everything* personally. And a key for me in advocacy and activism is remembering that IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU. How audacious we are, making everything about us. And what freedom we have when we realize it’s not about us. Yesterday many of you asked how I stay open to discussion, how I handle conflict graciously, how I maintain the energy for this emotional work — and it’s because @erinoutdoors reminds me often that it’s not about me. And that opens me up to so much growth and peace. It’s not about you — when we have conflict in conversations about advocacy issues. It’s so much bigger than you. When someone disagrees with you, it’s not about YOU. It’s not about you, it’s about the bigger picture — example: yesterday a colleague strongly disagreed with my post. Instead of making it about me, I understood that it wasn’t personal, it was an opportunity to learn and talk about an important issue. Or, it’s not about you, it’s just someone projecting their own junk into your space — and that’s definitely not about you, it’s about them — and it’s not your problem, so you most certainly are doing yourself a favor by not taking it personally. We tell ourselves stories, and we always make it about us. But, it’s not. Classic example: Friend doesn’t text you back? We make up a story that they’re ignoring us—when really they’re probably just busy and didn’t see your text, or they’re sick, or whatever. It’s not about you. Practice that the next time you get personally upset about something. Is it about you? Probably not. And my goodness, you get so much energy back when you stop taking everything personally. It’s a HARD thing to practice. But I dare you to try.

อย่างไรก็ตามเขาตัดสินใจโรยตัวลงไปจากหุบเขาเพื่อช่วยพวกมัน แม้ว่าเขาจะต้องเสี่ยงอันตรายในการปีนเขาและแบกหมาลงไปพร้มอกันก็ตามที

ทันทีที่ Leven เข้าไปใกล้พวกมัน เจ้าหมาทั้ง 2 ตัวดูดีใจมากที่เขาเข้ามาช่วย มันรีบวิ่งเข้ามาเขาและอ้อนขอให้พาลงไปด้วย

ชายหนุ่มเห็นสภาพของพวกมันแล้วก็สงสารมาก หมาทั้ง 2 ตัวดูผอมเหมือนไม่ได้กินอะไรมาสักพักแล้ว ดีที่เขามาเจอพวกมันได้ทันเวลา

In one of the more unexpected experiences of my life, I spotted a pair of abandoned dogs left to die on top of an overhanging cliff. They had no food, no water, and no way to go up nor down. They couldn’t walk more than a couple of steps from their perch without facing a cliff, either above or below them. The 4-legged monsters were terribly ferocious beasts, but I managed to tame them from a distance as their razor-blade teeth dripped human flesh and their yellow eyes projected flames. I didn’t expect to make it out of this experience alive, given their aggressive nature and the pile of bones beside them. You’ll never guess what happened next. Say hello to my new friends Meatball and Parmesan. On our adventure through CO, Brody and I stopped in a new-to-us canyon to camp and climb. As we loaded up gear at the base of the crag, we heard a yip-yip-yipping echo from the rocky outcrops. “Coyotes,” we delighted, then hiked up towards the cliffs in blissful solitude. There was no one else around and it was glorious. Later between climbs, Brody spotted a mama and baby coyote poke their heads out from a precarious perch high above us. I scrambled down to him, and we got another look–but it turns out, these coyotes had collars. They weren’t coyotes at all, they were two dogs, stranded high above the desert floor. We quickly assessed the situation, and decided to try to help them. I clipped Spaghetti’s treat bag to Brody’s harness and he roped up, stitched a two-pitch climb into one, topped out, and traversed the jagged sandstone towards the dogs. He scooted down steep slabs, and spotted them. Emaciated from their time spent abandoned in this unforgiving tierra, the pups quickly traded treats for licks of gratitude. Brody rigged them to his harness, and by a small miracle they both completely trusted him as he rappelled over a 60 foot overhanging cliff with them sitting on his lap (!!! swipe to see it). Once reunited with flat ground, Meatball (right) and Parmesan (left) drank all our water and waited patiently while Brody ascended the rope and retrieved our gear. We tucked Parmesan into a pack, scooped up Meatball, and hiked back down to the van for more treats and water. A BLM Ranger, Dan, happened to drive by and we told him the story of what just happened. We drove out of the canyon into cell service, and Ranger Dan called nearby stations hoping for a missing dog report–nothing. Nor did they have tags or microchips. They were likely dumped. Ranger Dan connected us to @tailsadoptions in Delta, CO. We drove our little buddies over there, where they are now being fattened up, spayed, and dewormed. These sweet angels are up for adoption, and I would love to see them go to a good home (ideally together). I will pay their adoption fees if anyone adopts the pair! หลังจากนั้น Boue และ Leven ก็ขับรถกลับเข้าไปในเมืองทันทีเพื่อพาพวกมันไปส่งให้ศูนย์พักพิงสัตว์ เนื่องจากทั้งคู่กำลังอยู่ระหว่างเที่ยวและสะดวกพาพวกมันไปด้วย

เจ้าหมาทั้ง 2 ถูกตั้งชื่อว่า Parmesan และ Meatball พวกมันตัวโชคดีมากที่ได้กลับมาอยู่ในที่ที่ปลอดภัยสักที และต่อมาไม่นานทั้งคู่ก็มีคนมารับเลี้ยงไปอยู่บ้านเป็นที่เรียบร้อย
